What is Pilates?
Pilates has been referred to as “the intelligent exercise approach”. It is a body conditioning exercise program that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall central core stability and posture. This can help correct muscular dysfunction, prevent injury, develop good posture and improve sports performance.
Triathlon Plus columnist Steve Trew says: “Core strength is the most important of the ‘extras’ in triathlon training……athletes and triathletes particularly are unlikely to make the best use of their abilities if they do not use core stability as an integral part of their training schedule.”
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates has been modified to make it safer for every level of fitness and rehabilitation. Our classes will be restricted to a maximum of twelve participants. During the class we will pay close attention to, and correct if necessary, your position and technique, as it is essential that you do the exercises well and at the correct level for you. It is easy to cheat and use the wrong muscles; this could lead to pain or injury.
Who would benefit from Pilates?
Everyone! One of the great things about Pilates is that it is suitable for everyone, for all body types, ages and fitness levels from the highest performing athlete to individuals with a variety of health problems.
If you are uncomfortable taking part in a group Pilates session for any reason, we would be happy to arrange a private Pilates session with you at a convenient time and location. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this.
